Keynotes, Activities and Entertainment

GRC 2010 was pleased to feature Laura Flanders as the Friday night Keynote Speaker.

Laura Flanders, host of the current events show GRITtv, has written for The Nation, In These Times, The Progressive and Ms. Magazine and is the author of several books, including Blue Grit: True Democrats Take Back Politics from the Politicians and BUSHWOMEN: Tales of a Cynical Species. She was the founding director of the Women's Desk at the media watch group, FAIR and for more than ten years she produced and hosted CounterSpin, FAIR's nationally-syndicated radio program.

Thursday, May 13, afternoon and evening:

Featured finger food and live music, including "Tesla Duo" (Lorna & Stephen Brown- Accordion and Guitar) during the Opening Reception from 5 - 7 PM and Registration from 3-9 PM at KMUD in Redway.


Friday, May 14, Evening, Garberville Theater:

  • Brief welcome.
  • Keynote address by Laura Flanders.
  • Showing of the film: Un Poquito de Tanta Verdad (A Little Bit of So Much Truth) by Jill Freidberg. This documentary film highlights the key role of media in the Oaxaca uprising.  A discussion facilitated by Maka Muñoz of Palabra Radio and Gary Hughes, KMUD programmer and activist, followed the film.

Saturday, May 15, evening, Garberville Vets’ Hall:

Additional Saturday event:  At the Mateel Community Center in Redway: KMUD broadcast live a variety show: “Bandwagon” - a benefit for school music programs, which featured student musicians and their teachers.  Producer Andy Barnett also offeried a workshop on the production of this type of event during GRC.
