According to the KMUD News Department:
On March 14th and 15th 2011, in response to neighbor complaints,
officers from the Arcata Police Department's Special Services Unit
served two search warrants in residential neighborhoods in Arcata.
Both search warrants were served on single family residences where
illegal marijuana cultivation operations were suspected to be taking
place. The first search warrant was served on the evening of March
14th in the 400 block of California Ave. Officers discovered a large
scale indoor marijuana cultivation operation. Nearly 700 marijuana
plants and more than 2 pounds of processed marijuana, along with an
array of cultivation equipment, was seized. David Semple Johnson,
age 36, of Arcata was arrested and booked into the Humboldt County
Jail for possession of marijuana for sale, operating a house for the
manufacture of drugs, cultivation of marijuana, transportation of
marijuana, possesion of concentrated canabis and possesion of
psilocybin mushrooms.
The second search warrant was served at a residence in the 3200
block of Zelia Ct. Officers located and inspected a marijuana
growing operation located inside the residence. It was determined
the growing operation was in compliance with proposition 215
guidlines. No arrests were made and no property was seized. City of
Arcata building inspectors discovered numerous building code
violations at both residences, necessitating the immediate
disconnection of electrical service.
