According to the KMUD News Department:
On March 14th and 15th 2011, in response to neighbor complaints, officers from the Arcata Police Department's Special Services Unit served two search warrants in residential neighborhoods in Arcata. Both search warrants were served on single family residences where illegal marijuana cultivation operations were suspected to be taking place. The first search warrant was served on the evening of March 14th in the 400 block of California Ave. Officers discovered a large scale indoor marijuana cultivation operation. Nearly 700 marijuana plants and more than 2 pounds of processed marijuana, along with an array of cultivation equipment, was seized. David Semple Johnson, age 36, of Arcata was arrested and booked into the Humboldt County Jail for possession of marijuana for sale, operating a house for the manufacture of drugs, cultivation of marijuana, transportation of marijuana, possesion of concentrated canabis and possesion of psilocybin mushrooms.

The second search warrant was served at a residence in the 3200 block of Zelia Ct. Officers located and inspected a marijuana growing operation located inside the residence. It was determined the growing operation was in compliance with proposition 215 guidlines. No arrests were made and no property was seized. City of Arcata building inspectors discovered numerous building code violations at both residences, necessitating the immediate disconnection of electrical service.

If you suspect illegal drug activity in your neighborhood, please contact the Arcata Police Departmet Special Services Unit at (707)-822-2428
