Update to this story- 9/3/12
According to a Press Release from the Humdoldt County Sheriff's Office, dated September 3, 2012: On 09-03-2012 at about 12:40 pm Deputies located Brian Wallace Johnson in a wooded area approximately 200 yards from his residence. Mr. Johnson was deceased.
This appears to be a natural death and no foul play is suspected.
According to a Press Release from the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office, dated Sept. 3, 2012:
On Sept. 1, 2012 at about 7:00 pm the Sheriff’s Office received a missing person report regarding Brian Wallace Johnson, age 65. Johnson’s wife, Jennifer Johnson, reported that Brian had left their residence, located at 1932 Baird Road McKinleyville, on 08-31-2012 at about 6:00 am. After having coffee with a neighbor, Brian left the area on foot to pick blueberries. When Brian did not return home, multiple family friends spent the day looking for Brian with no success.
Brian Johnson has serious medical conditions that require him to take medication daily. When he left the residence he did not have his medications with him. Sheriff’s Deputies have checked all the areas known to be frequented by Brian Johnson but have not been able to locate him.
The Sheriff's Office is requesting that anyone with information on the whereabouts of Brian Johnson contact them immediately - phone: (707) 445-7251.

According to a Press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office, dated June 19, 2012:
The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office continues to search for High Risk Missing Person Katherine Gillham. A detective has been assigned to the investigation and has learned Gillham was in the Elk Valley Casino, Crescent City on 06-11-2012, from 2:30 to 2:56 a.m. per the Casino Staff who located a video of her after a missing person flier was dropped off by her family members. Family members also viewed the video footage of Gillham and confirmed it was her. The California Highway Patrol has flown the route Gillham most likely took in California two different times and did not locate her or her vehicle. Humboldt County Search and Rescue deputies drove to the county line over the last two days and checked on and off the roadway for her, and her vehicle with no success. Del Norte County Search and Rescue is doing the same. Anyone with information is requested to call the Humboldt County Sheriffs Office at 707-445-7251.
On 06-14-2012, approximately 10:00 p.m. the Humboldt County Sheriffs Office was notified of a possible missing person-overdue motorist, Katherine Gillham. The missing person left Grants Pass, Oregon on 06-11-2012, approximately 2:00 a.m. and failed to make it home. Family members assumed she had made it home to Big Lagoon, however due to a communication breakdown, did not realize she was missing until 06-14-2012, when they reported her missing. She was driving a Grey 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor SUV, California 6UXE841. She is believed to have traveled State Route 199 from Grants Pass, Oregon to U.S. 101 to Big Lagoon, Humboldt County.

The Eureka Police Department is pleased to inform the public that on March 1st Mercer was located safe.
According to a press release from the Eureka Police Department, dated Feb. 22, 2012:
The Eureka Police Department is requesting the public's assistance in locating a reported missing man named Matthew Mercer. Mercer is a white male, 30 years old, 6'00", 190 lbs, with brown hair and hazel eyes. Mercer has been known to frequent the Old Town area and was last seen approximately three to four months ago riding his bicycle.
