Tune in to KMUD this Sunday, January 15 at 4 pm for a live broadcast from the Nor-Cal Congressional Candidate Debate at the Mateel Community Center in Redway.
This will be a 3 hour debate between the FEC registered congressional candidates moderated by ED Denson and Eric Kirk, KMUD talk show hosts and attorneys at law.
The debate will be broadcast on Access Humboldt on channel 11, and will be available on this website as live video stream on this website. Of course we'll have the regular KMUD live audio streams. Thanks to the Streamguys for their support. The debate will be archived for later viewing and listening.
You may want to attend the debate, it is free and open to the public. The Mateel's doors open at 2 pm.

Debate: Candidates for Southern Humboldt Health Care District Board
The Humboldt County Planning Division held a public scoping session on September 9 to discuss proposed zoning changes and a General Plan Amendment for the Southern Humboldt Community Park. The proposed zoning includes: (1) 305 acres as Agriculture Exclusive with a public recreation land use designation; (2) 96 acres as Public Facilities with a public recreation land use designation; and (3) three to five acres for multi-family residential housing. Commercial or nonprofit events with amplified music; performing arts events and facilities; sports fields; specialty camping; and other uses are proposed within the Public Facilities zone.
The full audio from the meeting is divided into three sections. The first contains comments from Humboldt County Supervisor Clif Clendenen and an overview of the proposal and process from Humboldt County Senior Planner Michael Richardson. The public comment portion of the meeting follows in two parts.
The “scoping period” is the first phase of public review of the proposal under the California Environmental Quality Act. Comments are accepted until October 27, 2010 to be considered by the Planning Division in its preparation of a draft Environmental Impact Report. Humboldt Cannabis: A future of opportunity
The Humboldt Medical Marijuana Advisory Panel is a community-based nonpartisan policy group created to foster comprehensive approaches to legal marijuana policy, integrating health, safety, economic, and regulatory issues in Humboldt County, California and the United States.
The Cannabis Chronicles explores the rapidly changing state of marijuana from black market to industry in California.
Cannabis Chronicles is produced and hosted by Liz Davidson.
Program 1: This first installment looks at the Tax And Regulate Cannabis initiative, with views on it fromCaNORML director Dale Gieringer and medical activist Dr. Frank Lucido. It also looks at the legal medical industry, tax money, the industry in Oakland, the impact on the black market, and what these things might mean toHumboldt's largest industry.
Program 2: The second installment of the Cannabis Chronicles looks at the medical cannabis industry. Attorney General guidelines and the Health and Safety code name the collective or cooperative as the basis of cannabis cultivation or distribution, but laws are poorly defined and even more poorly understood. Host Liz Davidson talks to cannabis law attorney James Silva about agricultural cooperatives and dispensaries, reports on safe legal avenues of distribution, and names some misunderstandings that might cause patients or caregivers to unknowingly commit a felony. Liz also talks to a dispensary owner Mariellen Jurkowitz about her major concerns, USDA/Clean Green inspector Chris van Hook about organic cannabis, and looks at the future of regulation of this growing industry.
Program 3: he Cannabis Chronicles concludes with "Inside or Outside" a look at the environmental impacts of cultivation, both indoor, and outdoor. Interviews include Hardy, Tyce Fraser, Chris Van Hook, Dr. Michael Geci, Mariellen Jurkowitz, and Dr. Frank Lucido.

The Humboldt Bandwagon live at the Mateel Community Center on May 15, 2010
Written by SimonBrass bands, Brazillian choro, free jazz, radio theater, and even a polka will fill the Mateel Community Center on Saturday May 15th when the Bandwagon for the Arts hits the stage.
The free event, set as a benefit for Southern Humboldt and Leggett Valley school arts programs, will be broadcast live on KMUD (91.1fm) from 7:00 to 8:30pm. The live studio audience will be part of the show with sing-alongs, sound effects, and the whoop-it-up fun of live radio.
Students from several area schools will be featured on the air including the exceptional 2010 South Fork Band and Mad Jazz Singers. Local music educators, pro performers, and student actors will be in the cast.
Producer Andy Barnett is putting the show together to support local school arts programs, many of which are in jeopardy due to years of overall school funding reductions. “There has been amazing support in past years,” said Barnett. “This year we need more help than ever,” he said.
The Bandwagon takes to the airwaves in the middle of a KMUD sponsored National Community Radio Conference. Barnett will conduct a workshop on live radio variety show production as part of the conference. Barnett and his on-air partner and real-life wife, Beth Wells, produced forty Bandwagon benefit broadcasts in the nineties, raising more than $30,000 for local non-profits.
