2011-Great California ShakeOut takes place Thurs., Oct. 20

Written by

The 2011 Great California ShakeOut is occuring statewide on Thursday, October 20th at 10:20 AM. The ShakeOut has been created to help people and organizations get better prepared for major earthquakes, and practice how to be protected when they happen. The California ShakeOut drill is held on the third Thursday of October each year. Other areas are also holding ShakeOut drills. More than 7.9 million Californians participated in 2010, practicing Drop, Cover, and Hold On and other aspects of family, school, and organizational emergency plans.

Federal, state, and local emergency management experts and other official preparedness organizations all agree that "Drop, Cover, and Hold On" is the appropriate action to reduce injury and death during earthquakes. The ShakeOut is our opportunity to practice how to protect ourselves during earthquakes.
