Greyhound: Must have ticket before boarding Featured

Greyhound bus in ArcataUpdate: Dec. 31, 2014 - According to information given to KMUD News, a man in Eureka witnessed a group of thirteen people who were denied boarding a Greyhound Bus because they did not have paper copies of their tickets but did have confirmation of ticket purchases on their mobile phones.

In addition to Greyhound Lines, Amtrak is another option for holiday travelers.

Gone are the days when one could flag down a Greyhound bus and pay the driver or ride to the next station to purchase tickets there. Now Greyhound customers must have a ticket in order to hold a seat. In most cases, if passengers do not check in prior to the scheduled departure time, tickets can be cancelled with no refund given.

In a press release dated November 21, 2014, Arcata Public Transportation superintendent Larry Pardy states "This situation occurs more frequently during holidays and school breaks. Recently, an estimated one hundred people found out about this the hard way and were turned away. In some instances travelers missed flights in the Bay Area, doctor’s appointments, and family events, to name a few of the unfortunate but avoidable consequences."

"Greyhound has made it very easy to make reservations or purchase tickets online at www.greyhound.com, by phone at (800) 231-2222 or in person at the regional Greyhound station located at the Arcata Transit Center bus terminal, 925 E Street between 9th and 10th Streets. Transit Center office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays and on Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Offices are closed from noon to 1 p.m. and on Sundays and holidays.
